340th New Thing - Saw Arrow Electronics CEO Speak

As an alumni of DU, I'm invited to attend events on campus. Tonight, was Daniels College of Business Voices of Experience speaker series event with Michael Long, CEO of Arrow Electronics. The Daniels speaker series brings in CEOs and significant leaders to share the lessons learned from their triumphs, mistakes, and decisions as they navigated through their leadership careers. Arrow Electronics is a global provider of products, services and solutions to industrial and commercial users of electronic components and enterprise computing solutions. Arrow serves as a supply channel partner for more than 120,000 original equipment manufacturers, contract manufacturers, and commercial customers through a global network of more than 390 locations in 52 countries.

Prior to being named CEO in May 2009, Long served as president and chief operating officer (COO) of Arrow, with responsibility for all of the company’s operations and business units. Before that, Long served as senior vice president of Arrow and president of the company’s Global Components business with responsibility for overseeing Arrow’s semiconductor, passive, electromechanical and connector products and services businesses worldwide. Long has been with Arrow since 1991 when Arrow merged with Schweber Electronics, a company where he held various leadership roles from 1983 to 1990. In 1994, Long was president, Capstone Electronics, an Arrow company, and from 1995 to 1999, he was president, Gates/Arrow Distributing. From 1998 to 2005, Long was president and COO, Arrow North American Computer Products (now Arrow Enterprise Computing Solutions). As a result of his success in running and growing this business, Long was named one of Computer Reseller News' “Top 25 Executives” in 2002 and 2004. Long also served as president, North America and Asia/Pacific components.

According to Long, Arrow touches most electronics in your home and work. If they don't touch it now, they plan to in the near future.

111th New Thing - Took a Zyrtec

If you recall, I went to the dermatologist to get a skin screening for the 1st time back in December. When I was there, the doctor did a biopsy of 1 of the moles on my back (which came back as normal, by the way). The area was healing pretty well until about 2 weeks ago. The area around the wound started getting bigger instead of smaller and oozing. Therefore, I went back to my doctor to check it out. She said I was having an allergic reaction to something, probably the Neosporin . She gave me some new ointment, Vanos , and said I should take Zyrtec until the area starts to get better. Vanos (fluocinonide) Cream is indicated for the relief of the inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid responsive dermatoses in patients. Best results are seen if used twice per day. Zyrtec (cetirizine) is an antihistamine that reduces the effects of natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose. Zyrtec can be u...

364th New Thing - Ate a Mini Lemon Bites

My co-workers birthday was today so to celebrate they bought her a vanilla cake, a chocolate cake, and mini lemon bites from Costco . I had some chocolate cake and a mini lemon bite. These are made by Upper Crust Bakery . They supply Sam's Club, Starbucks, Costco, Kroger, Whole Foods, and BJ’s Wholesale Club. Both desserts that I ate tasted good. According to the Livestrong Calorie Tracker , 1 mini lemon bite is 130 calories, 19 g carbs, and 1 g protein. What did you do today?
