After my last dentist visit at University Park Family Dental with Avery Lopez, he recommended I replace my 2 old silver/metal fillings with new white fillings, Resin-Based Composite-Two Surface Fillings, and fill a small new cavity. Dental composite resins are types of synthetic resins which are used in dentistry as restorative material or adhesives. Synthetic resins evolved as restorative materials since they were insoluble, aesthetic, insensitive to dehydration, easy to manipulate and reasonably inexpensive. Composite resins are most commonly composed of Bis-GMA monomers or some Bis-GMA analog, a filler material such as silica and in most current applications, a photoinitiator. Dimethacrylates are also commonly added to achieve certain physical properties such as flowability. My procedure took about 50 minutes, 15 minutes to numb, then about 10 minutes on each tooth. I got to watch an episode of Glee during the procedure. The total cost was $369.00, where my MetLife Dental Insurance paid $255.20, and I paid $113.80 out of pocket. My mouth was numb for about 3 hours and a little sore when I went to bed.
