According to Deb Stanley from Debbie's Deal on ABC 7 News, today is 7-Eleven's 85th Birthday. To celebrate, they were giving away free 7 oz Slurpees from 11am-7pm. 7-Eleven's story can be traced back to 1927, when Southland Ice Company employee Joe C. Thompson started selling milk, eggs, and bread out of an ice house. Thompson became so successful that he bought the entire company, keeping his stores open from 7am to 11pm. By 1952, he'd opened 100 stores under the 7-Eleven brand. As of 1991, the company has been run by Japanese group Seven & I Holdings Co. with more than 46,000 stores in 16 countries. There was a big Slurpee machine on the left with about 8 flavors and a small SlurpeeLite machine on the right with 2 flavors. I tried a Fanta Sugar-Free Mango SlurpeeLite. It was ok (sorry I'm a water drinker).
What did you do today?
