Things I’ve learned so far…

1. Mercury revolves around the sun 4 times for every 1 time the Earth does.
2. CO sales tax is 7.2%.
3. They sell beer in grocery stores but not liquor. If you buy beer at the grocery store it has less percentage of alcohol in it as opposed to buying it at a liquor store, which has the normal amount.
4. They have hookah lounges here.
5. Fish tacos aren’t so bad.
6. I live the city of Denver and also Denver county and think I live in a neighboorhood called Hampden.
7. Don’t leave your home without your wallet, it is needed for many things, and then you will have to go back all the way back home to get it.
8. Not all DMV have all services, some are just for licenses, not taxes, titles, registration.
9. DMV close at 5:00 but take their last customer at 4:30 pm, so even if drive all across the city and show up at 4:31 pm, the doors are locked and you are SOL.
10. Within walking distance I can get to a bowling alley, 3 bars, 2 grocery stores, sushi joint, Indian buffet, Vietnamese restaurant, a $2 book store, amongst other things.
11. Denver is hillier than I thought, you start to notice it more when you ride your bike or run.
12. Just cuz I think I know some streets and where I’m going, doesn’t mean I do. Always use Mapquest or I’ll wind up driving the slow way thru neighborhoods with stop signs on every block.
13. There are a lot of parks around and they play a lot of grass volleyball, put up their own posts and everything!
14. If you don’t push the crosswalk button, the little blue man doesn’t appear to let you cross.
15. If I get a dog, I won’t have to buy poop bags.
16. Grocery stores give you 5 ¢ per bag that you bring (could be nationwide but just took advantage of it in CO.
17. People aren’t as generous here as I thought, they all have secure wireless internet.
18. You don’t need an A/C in Denver, late night and early morning gets down to 55F, afternoons get as hot as 88F.
19. It is sunny and cloudless pretty much every morning, with a dark blue sky.
20. I don’t sweat as much here (I probably do but it just evaporates quicker).
21. I need to wear more lotion, chapstick, and sunscreen AND drink more water here.
22. The grass and sidewalks are wet in the morning from sprinklers in the middle of the night, not because it rains every night.
23. DMV’s only take checks or cash.
24. Cars don’t have antennas anymore.
25. There are plenty of city buses driving around but they turn a lot and I have no idea where they go.
26. 12 blocks = 1 mile (1200 = 1 mi), I think.
27. Coloradans own either Subarus, Jeeps, or Toyotas.
28. They go to the mountains every weekend, even in the spring, summer, and fall.
29. There are tornados here.
30. Even Denver people call Boulder people crunchy hippies who eat granola!
31. My toilet is for tall people! It is also more efficient to flush. I believe my shower head is as well.
32. Altitude effects not only baking cakes, but cooking in general takes longer. Something about cars running or driving cars too…
33. There is something called a brown cloud in Denver.
34. Bring CDs in the car ride to the mtns.
35. Coloradans drive like maniacs on I-70.
36. When it does rain in Denver, it rains for 15 minutes while the sun is still shining.
37. NJ is not in New England.
38. Yellow lights turn red really fast and tickets cost $160, so slam your breaks instead of speeding up. If they were photo enforced, I'd probably have about 6 tickets by now.
39. There is an actual medical condition of Excessive Yawning caused by decreased oxygen levels in the blood or talking too much and not getting enough oxygen in your body (yawning 1-4 times per min).

271st New Thing - Visited the Space Needle

I was on vacation so I didn't have time to post the last few nights, therefore I'm posting this late as this occurred 1 day ago   (Tues 7/17/12).   We were in the northwest in the Washington State area for a few days so Matt and my 2 Chicago friends were in Seattle and up the Space Needle yesterday. The Space Needle is a tower in Seattle, Washington and is a major landmark of the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It was built for the 1962 World's Fair, during which time nearly 20,000 people a day used the elevators, with over 2.3 million visitors in all for the World Fair. The Space Needle is 605 feet high at its highest point and 138 feet wide at its widest point and weighs 9,550 tons. It is built to withstand winds of up to 200 mph and earthquakes of up to 9.1 magnitude. The tower also has 25 lightning rods on its roof to prevent lightning damage. The Space Needle features an observation deck at 520 feet, and a gift shop with the rotating SkyCity resta...
