245th New Thing - Signed Up for Pinterest


You may have heard of Pinterest. It is 1 of the “fastest growing social services in the world.” Pinterest is a pinboard-style social photo sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections such as events, interests, hobbies, and more. Users can browse other pinboards for inspiration, 're-pin' images to their own collections and/or 'like' photos. Pinterest's mission is to "connect everyone in the world through the 'things' they find interesting" via a global platform of inspiration and idea sharing. Pinterest allows its users to share 'pins' on both Twitter and Facebook, which allows users to share and interact with a broad community. It was founded by Ben Silbermann, of West Des Moines IA. The site is managed by Cold Brew Labs and funded by a small group of entrepreneurs and inventors. Development of Pinterest began in December 2009, and the site launched as a closed beta in March 2010. Their Mission Statement is:  "Our goal is to connect everyone in the world through the 'things' they find interesting. We think that a favorite book, toy, or recipe can reveal a common link between two people. With millions of new pins added every week, Pinterest is connecting people all over the world based on shared tastes and interests."

Pinterest has experienced phenomenal growth recently, doubling its number of daily unique visitors to 4 million in the first four months of this year, according to data released last month by social-media marketer Tamba. The company closed a $100 million round of financing last month that gave it a valuation of $1.5 billion. I signed up for an account today to see what it is all about. It is a great tool as a marketer. I signed up through my Facebook account. 71 of my Facebook friends already use it. I didn't create a profile or 'pin' anything just yet, but I'm 'following' 20 people. I don't completely understand Pinterest quite yet, but I think this will be a useful site, especially for wedding planning!

NOLA  - October 2018 Café Du Monde (800 Decatur St, New Orleans LA 70116) - Café Au Lait and Beignets, only a 10 minute wait with some live music and well worth it! Commander’s Palace (1403 Washington Ave, New Orleans LA 70130) - Soups 1-1-1 (Turtle Soup, Creole Gumbo du Jour, Soup du Jour), Commander's Crisp Romaine Salad, and Creole Tostada; and, of course, a 25¢ Martini (does it really matter what kind!). No wait for lunch today. All of it was delish and worth the dress code.  Pat O'Brien's (624 Bourbon St, New Orleans LA 70130) - World Famous Hurricane! Antoine's Restaurant (713 St Louis St, New Orleans LA 70130) - Oysters Rockefeller - baked on the half shell with the original Rockefeller sauce created by Antoine's in 1889. South Dakota  - June 2016 Laughing Water Restaurant in Crazy Horse Memorial (12151 Avenue of the Chiefs, Crazy Horse SD 57730) - get the Native American Taco, a type of Indian Fry Bread like Naan, with regular taco fixin's like ground beef, refried beans, cheese lettuce, tomato, onions, and topped with salsa and sour cream! For dessert, get the Fry Bread with Wojapi (warm berry sauce). Prairie Berry Winery (23837 Hwy 385, Hill City SD 57745) - Red Ass Rhubarb (semi-sweet rhubarb raspberry wine). Shooters Wood Fire Grill  (2424 W Main St, Rapid City SD 57702) - Beef Chislic is marinated Angus sirloin strips lightly breaded and fried, served with tangy BBQ sauce.
