252nd New Thing - Snikiddy Eat Your Vegetables Chips

snikiddy logo
I participated in Bike to Work Day yesterday. Bike to Work Day is held in Colorado in June, the month after the national Bike to Work Day celebration, due to unpredictable May weather. The Denver area event is organized by the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) with the assistance of a team of stakeholders, and is supported by KUSA/9News, Encana Natural Gas, RTD, Comcast, Craig Hospital, Noodles & Company, b-Cycle, goodnessKnows, Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, CDOT, REI, Colorado Athletic Clubs, Westword, Chipotle, and the American Lung Association in Colorado. The Bike to Work Day site offers a map of stations throughout the region that will offer refreshments the day of the event, resources for route planning, safety tips, information about group rides, t-shirt ordering, and more. The annual event supports and promotes bicycling as a commute choice among workers who might otherwise choose to drive alone to work, in the hopes that once they try bicycling, it may become a regular part of the daily routine.

One of the breakfast stations was at Whole Foods in Cherry Creek. They were serving water, coffee, bagels & cream cheese, granola samples, Eat Your Vegetables Chips Jalapeño Ranch, and dark chocolate samples. Eat Your Vegetables Chips are made by Snikiddy. Snikiddy is a 2006-born company started by a mother daughter team founded by Mary Schulman who resides in Bethesda MD. Essentially, the chips are made out of vegetables that have the composition and texture of a chip, yet provides all the healthy benefits in each serving. Their website states: "Is your family tired of the “same old, same old” snack offerings, and ready to embrace healthier snacking alternatives? Eat Your Vegetables™ is the only real veggie snack offering that tastes like a mainstream chip. Satisfy your greatest snack desires while eating chips that contain a full serving of vegetables in just one ounce. With Eat Your Vegetables™, healthier just got a lot tastier!" The chips come in Sea Salt, Sour Cream & Onion, Jalapeño Ranch, and Italian Herb & Olive Oil flavors. Jalapeño Ranch is made with Navy Beans, Dried Potatoes, Rice Flour, Sunflower Oil, Carrots, Sweet Potatoes, Salt, Onion Powder, Sugar, Jalapeño Pepper Powder, Paprika, Spices, and other ingredients.

39th New Thing – Donated $1 to Books For Africa

I read an Oprah.com article, 16 Ways to Make an Incredible Impact With Less Than $15 , recently about 16 different organizations you can donate to for as low as a $1 donation or up to a $15. Since it is the holiday season of giving, I decided to donate $1 to Books For Africa . Supposedly $1 will provide 2 books shipped to a classroom in Africa. Access to an education is one of the only opportunities young people have to end the cycle of poverty and attain a better quality of life than previous generations. Books For Africa works to help children who otherwise would not attend school by supplying educational materials to reduce or eliminate education costs. In the wake of Wyclef's accusations (1/3 of $16 million raised went to the charity), I was a little leery of donating but if Oprah says it is a reliable organization, it must be!
