353rd New Thing - Ate Anthony's Pizza

I won a free large cheese pizza from Anthony's Pizza and Pasta a couple months ago for a Facebook contest by describing Anthony's in 2 words (question: 'Describe Anthony's in 2 words', my winning answer was 'foldable yummyness', choosen out of 108 other responses!). Anthony's Pizza serves NY style pizza (the kind that you fold in half to eat). It began in a small storefront location in downtown Denver, just off the 16th Street Mall, in 1984 when Henry Mann started serving the lunchtime crowd New York style pizza by the slice. Anthony’s has grown to serve fresh-cooked pastas and salads, but still retains a casual and family atmosphere. Their pizza is made with premium mozzarella cheese, hand tossed, and served at over 20 locations. They've won awards like 5280 Magazine 2009 Best Pizza, AOL Cityguide 2006 Best Thin Crust, and Westword 2007 Best Pizza. We ordered a large (18") Neapolitan pizza with sausage, peppers, onions, and mushrooms. It would have cost $26 without my free voucher. I've had a cheese slice before and LOVED it, however, I wasn't too impressed with our pizza tonight. I hardly tasted any sausage, the middle was mushy, and the crust was crunchy. NY pizza should be foldable with a little more crustiness in the middle and mushy on the crust. I'm just saying NY pizza in NY is better. Anthony's in Denver may be the best NY style pizza in Colorado but not the best NY style pizza (not our pizza pictured below).
What did you do today?

47th New Thing - Watched Laverne & Shirley

I watched a classic sitcom today from the 70s, Laverne & Shirley . The show aired on ABC from January 26, 1976, to May 10, 1983 and starred Penny Marshall as Laverne De Fazio and Cindy Williams as Shirley Feeney. They were roommates who worked in a fictitious Milwaukee brewery called "Shotz Brewery". The show was a spin-off from Happy Days, as the two lead characters were originally introduced on that series as acquaintances of Fonzie. I watched Season 7, Episode 22, "Perfidy in Blue" originally aired on May 11, 1982. This episode started out with Shirley looking for Laverne's favorite blue purse that she borrowed and lost. Laverne asks where it is because she would like to use it on her date. Shirley lies and says she hasn't seen it. Shirley then watches TV and daydreams that she is in the TV show and married. Laverne is having an affair with Shirley's husband and Laverne tries to poison Shirley. Shirley pretends she is dead. Shirley wakes up and ...

271st New Thing - Visited the Space Needle

I was on vacation so I didn't have time to post the last few nights, therefore I'm posting this late as this occurred 1 day ago   (Tues 7/17/12).   We were in the northwest in the Washington State area for a few days so Matt and my 2 Chicago friends were in Seattle and up the Space Needle yesterday. The Space Needle is a tower in Seattle, Washington and is a major landmark of the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It was built for the 1962 World's Fair, during which time nearly 20,000 people a day used the elevators, with over 2.3 million visitors in all for the World Fair. The Space Needle is 605 feet high at its highest point and 138 feet wide at its widest point and weighs 9,550 tons. It is built to withstand winds of up to 200 mph and earthquakes of up to 9.1 magnitude. The tower also has 25 lightning rods on its roof to prevent lightning damage. The Space Needle features an observation deck at 520 feet, and a gift shop with the rotating SkyCity resta...
