88th New Thing - Donated Blood in a Bus

I donated blood today with Bonfils Blood Center. The organization had a blood drive at my work today. I've donated blood about 4 times before but usually in a large multi-purpose room. There wasn't space for Bonfils to set up in a room today, so the employees donated in the Blood Bus. The Blood Bus was a large RV type of bus with 2 private rooms to answer health-related questions before donation and about 6 lounging chairs to donate at a time. I believe I donated 1 pint of blood in approximately 10 minutes. My blood type is O+ (37.4% of the population). Recipient blood type of O+ are O+, A+, B+, and AB+. 85% of the population can receive my blood. O- blood type is the universal donor since O- blood can be transfused to any patient regardless of their blood type. Bonfils provides 80% of Colorado's blood supply and distributes blood to nearly 200 hospitals and healthcare facilities where it is used in a variety of medical treatments. My blood donation has a chance to save and enhance the lives of up to 3 patients!

158th New Thing - Tried Sweet Potato Popchips

While we were at Albertsons doing our weekly grocery shopping, there was a lady there giving away free sample bags of Popchips so I took a sample of their Sweet Potato flavor. I had my 0.8 ox bag of Sweet Potato Popchips today with my lunch. Popchips were founded in 2007 in San Francisco as a healthy alternative to traditional potato chips. They aren't fried or baked, but popped by taking potatoes and adding a heat and pressure. They have won awards such as 'Best Snack' from Shape Magazine and 'Best Chips' from Health Magazine. My 0.8 oz bag had 100 calories, 3g fat, 95mg sodium, 16g carbohydrates, and 2g sugar. They had a slightly salted and sweet flavor in the airy chip. NOLA  - October 2018 Café Du Monde (800 Decatur St, New Orleans LA 70116) - Café Au Lait and Beignets, only a 10 minute wait with some live music and well worth it! Commander’s Palace (1403 Washington Ave, New Orleans LA 70130) - Soups 1-1-1 (Turtle Soup, Creole Gumbo du Jour, Soup du Jour), Commander's Crisp Romaine Salad, and Creole Tostada; and, of course, a 25¢ Martini (does it really matter what kind!).
