168th New Thing - Went to TEDxChange

Image Detail
I went to see TEDxChange today after work. DU was broadcasting it from Berlin. TED (Technology, Entertainment, and Design) Conferences are non-profit conferences, formed to disseminate "ideas worth spreading." It was founded in 1984 and is held annually and globally. If you go to their website, you can watch videos of the speakers from the past and present. Each speaker is challenged to give the talk of their live in 18 minutes or less.

Tonight, I listened to 2 speakers of the TEDxChange speakers in Berlin: Jeff Chapin and Sven Giegold. Jeff Chapin is a mechanical engineer and product designer for IDEO. He specializes in designing sanitation solutions for the developing world and has conducted projects in both Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Jeff challenged traditional perceptions of ‘design’ by emphasizing the importance of sustainable, market-based systems for developing societies. Sven Giegold is a Member of the European Parliament and 1 of the founding members of Attac Germany. Sven has dedicated much of his career towards green industry issues. He talked about the power of collective action and how the actions of individuals, communities, and progressive business can lead to critical changes at a national and international level.

I've seen videos of TED speakers in the past and while these speakers are ok, I've seen better ones. Seriously, check out a few videos on www.ted.com.

What did you do today?

111th New Thing - Took a Zyrtec

If you recall, I went to the dermatologist to get a skin screening for the 1st time back in December. When I was there, the doctor did a biopsy of 1 of the moles on my back (which came back as normal, by the way). The area was healing pretty well until about 2 weeks ago. The area around the wound started getting bigger instead of smaller and oozing. Therefore, I went back to my doctor to check it out. She said I was having an allergic reaction to something, probably the Neosporin . She gave me some new ointment, Vanos , and said I should take Zyrtec until the area starts to get better. Vanos (fluocinonide) Cream is indicated for the relief of the inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid responsive dermatoses in patients. Best results are seen if used twice per day. Zyrtec (cetirizine) is an antihistamine that reduces the effects of natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose. Zyrtec can be u
