193rd New Thing - Drank Pepsi Next

There are many sponsors of local running races. Companies pay money sponsor races to get their name and logo out there. Sports Authority was the Title Sponsor of the Sports Authority Cherry Creek Sneak. Pepsi Next was a Supporting Sponsor. They had a booth set up in the finishers' area. Therefore, yesterday, I received a free 12 oz can of Pepsi NextPepsiCo brought this new line of mid-calorie soda nationwide the beginning of 2012. The soft drink, which has 60 calories per serving, less than 1/2 that of normal Pepsi, debuted in trial run in Iowa and Wisconsin in July. Pepsi Next is sweetened by a combination of caloric sweeteners, like high-fructose corn syrup, and artificial sweeteners. It represents Pepsi's 3rd attempt at a cola with fewer calories than Pepsi and more calories than Diet Pepsi (ex Pepsi XL). But the company has found success with its mid-calorie orange juice, Trop50, so it's possible that it applied lessons learned from that product to the launch of Pepsi Next. I drank my 12 oz can at work today, it did taste like a cola beverage somewhere between a regular and diet cola.

PepsiCo is an American multinational corporation headquartered in Purchase NY. It was formed in 1965. Other brands PepsiCo owns include Frito-Lay, Quaker, and Gatorade. As of 2009, 19 of PepsiCo's product lines generated retail sales of more than $1 billion each, and the company’s products were distributed across more than 200 countries, resulting in annual net revenues of $43.3 billion. Based on net revenue, PepsiCo is the 2nd largest food & beverage business in the world.

47th New Thing - Watched Laverne & Shirley

I watched a classic sitcom today from the 70s, Laverne & Shirley . The show aired on ABC from January 26, 1976, to May 10, 1983 and starred Penny Marshall as Laverne De Fazio and Cindy Williams as Shirley Feeney. They were roommates who worked in a fictitious Milwaukee brewery called "Shotz Brewery". The show was a spin-off from Happy Days, as the two lead characters were originally introduced on that series as acquaintances of Fonzie. I watched Season 7, Episode 22, "Perfidy in Blue" originally aired on May 11, 1982. This episode started out with Shirley looking for Laverne's favorite blue purse that she borrowed and lost. Laverne asks where it is because she would like to use it on her date. Shirley lies and says she hasn't seen it. Shirley then watches TV and daydreams that she is in the TV show and married. Laverne is having an affair with Shirley's husband and Laverne tries to poison Shirley. Shirley pretends she is dead. Shirley wakes up and ...

271st New Thing - Visited the Space Needle

I was on vacation so I didn't have time to post the last few nights, therefore I'm posting this late as this occurred 1 day ago   (Tues 7/17/12).   We were in the northwest in the Washington State area for a few days so Matt and my 2 Chicago friends were in Seattle and up the Space Needle yesterday. The Space Needle is a tower in Seattle, Washington and is a major landmark of the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It was built for the 1962 World's Fair, during which time nearly 20,000 people a day used the elevators, with over 2.3 million visitors in all for the World Fair. The Space Needle is 605 feet high at its highest point and 138 feet wide at its widest point and weighs 9,550 tons. It is built to withstand winds of up to 200 mph and earthquakes of up to 9.1 magnitude. The tower also has 25 lightning rods on its roof to prevent lightning damage. The Space Needle features an observation deck at 520 feet, and a gift shop with the rotating SkyCity resta...
