178th New Thing - Read The Help

I didn't have time to post last night, therefore I'm posting this late as this occurred yesterday (Sun 4/15/12).

I finished reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett in bed last night. It released in 2009 and was a best seller for more than 100 weeks. A film adaptation of The Help was released in 2011. It takes place in the early 1960s in Jackson MS. It is about the black maids that take care of white family's homes and help raise white children. Maids aren't paid well and treated poorly. The 3 main characters are Skeeter (22 year old women that recently graduated with dreams to become a writer), Aibileen (older, wiser, black maid for Skeeter's friend), and Minny (short, fat, black maid). The 3 women come together to secretly write a book about their bosses. I enjoyed the book. I always like when books are written from first-person perspectives multiple characters. This book had chapters with Skeeter's, Aibileen's, and Minny's points of view. It took me about 3 months to read and I gave it a 4 out of 5 on Goodreads.

111th New Thing - Took a Zyrtec

If you recall, I went to the dermatologist to get a skin screening for the 1st time back in December. When I was there, the doctor did a biopsy of 1 of the moles on my back (which came back as normal, by the way). The area was healing pretty well until about 2 weeks ago. The area around the wound started getting bigger instead of smaller and oozing. Therefore, I went back to my doctor to check it out. She said I was having an allergic reaction to something, probably the Neosporin . She gave me some new ointment, Vanos , and said I should take Zyrtec until the area starts to get better. Vanos (fluocinonide) Cream is indicated for the relief of the inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid responsive dermatoses in patients. Best results are seen if used twice per day. Zyrtec (cetirizine) is an antihistamine that reduces the effects of natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose. Zyrtec can be u...

361st New Thing - Tried on Wedding Dresses

I didn't have time to post the last night, therefore I'm posting this late as this occurred yesterday (Mon 10/15/12). My friend and I went to David's Bridal last night to try on some wedding dresses. I looked on their website a few months ago to get a feel of the type of dresses I like. There are 6 styles: Classic & Traditional, Chic & Modern, Elegant & Luxurious, Glamorous & Dramatic, Destination, and Reception. I like Classic & Traditional the best. There are 5 silhouettes to choose from: A-Line, Ball Gown, Mermaid/Trumpet, Sheath, and Short. I like A-Line the best. I'm considering straps or strapless. It took about 1.5 hours to try on 5 dresses. I liked 2 of the dresses I tried on, both were under $350. My goal is to find one under $200. Here is one of the 'favorites' that I saw online. It is hard to tell if I would or wouldn't like it on myself. What did you do today?
