289th New Thing - Drank at Lowry Beer Garden

I didn't have time to post last night, therefore I'm posting this a day late as this occurred yesterday (Sat 8/4/12).
Matt's birthday was last week so we went out with a bunch of friends to drink at Lowry Beer Garden in the Lowry neighborhood. This beer garden is relatively new opening around Memorial Day 2012. It celebrates Colorado’s craft beer culture with more than 4,500 square feet of outdoor garden area, vast open-air seating, and an inviting covered pavilion. The Oktoberfest-style picnic tables collectively can accommodate up to 350 guests, foster an environment of community, and conviviality. The beer garden offers a thoughtful draft and bottled beer selection with a focus on Colorado and handcrafted brews. They also serve casual fare with locally-made gourmet brats & sausages, freshly-baked pretzels, house-ground burgers, hand-cut fries, and chef-created salads.

From Friday, July 20 through Monday, August 20, the Lowry Beer Garden features Bristol Brewing Company’s popular Laughing Lab beer on tap. The Beer Garden donates $1 from every pint sold to the Colorado Springs Fire Department Waldo Canyon Fire Gift Trust Fund to help raise money for the victims of the Colorado wildfires. I had 2 of those. The weather was nice and the beer garden was fun!

47th New Thing - Watched Laverne & Shirley

I watched a classic sitcom today from the 70s, Laverne & Shirley . The show aired on ABC from January 26, 1976, to May 10, 1983 and starred Penny Marshall as Laverne De Fazio and Cindy Williams as Shirley Feeney. They were roommates who worked in a fictitious Milwaukee brewery called "Shotz Brewery". The show was a spin-off from Happy Days, as the two lead characters were originally introduced on that series as acquaintances of Fonzie. I watched Season 7, Episode 22, "Perfidy in Blue" originally aired on May 11, 1982. This episode started out with Shirley looking for Laverne's favorite blue purse that she borrowed and lost. Laverne asks where it is because she would like to use it on her date. Shirley lies and says she hasn't seen it. Shirley then watches TV and daydreams that she is in the TV show and married. Laverne is having an affair with Shirley's husband and Laverne tries to poison Shirley. Shirley pretends she is dead. Shirley wakes up and ...

271st New Thing - Visited the Space Needle

I was on vacation so I didn't have time to post the last few nights, therefore I'm posting this late as this occurred 1 day ago   (Tues 7/17/12).   We were in the northwest in the Washington State area for a few days so Matt and my 2 Chicago friends were in Seattle and up the Space Needle yesterday. The Space Needle is a tower in Seattle, Washington and is a major landmark of the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It was built for the 1962 World's Fair, during which time nearly 20,000 people a day used the elevators, with over 2.3 million visitors in all for the World Fair. The Space Needle is 605 feet high at its highest point and 138 feet wide at its widest point and weighs 9,550 tons. It is built to withstand winds of up to 200 mph and earthquakes of up to 9.1 magnitude. The tower also has 25 lightning rods on its roof to prevent lightning damage. The Space Needle features an observation deck at 520 feet, and a gift shop with the rotating SkyCity resta...
