341st New Thing - Signed Up for a Sustainability Class

As an alumni of DU, I receive email communications about events, activities, and education opportunities. I received an email a while back about a sustainability class being offered in the fall. The email was from Natural Capitalism Solutions about a Sustainability Leadership and Implementation Certificate Course offered for 6 total days between 9/28/12-12/15/12 for $3,500. It is the leading sustainability certificate program that will help students gain the knowledge and skills needed to implement an effective and profit-enhancing sustainability program in their organization. Through this course, participants will gain a deep understanding of sustainability frameworks, while also learning the practical leadership and implementation skills needed to put an effective sustainability program in place. As a final deliverable, participants will develop and present a set of strategic sustainability initiatives for their organization, in addition to initial goals and implementation strategies. Upon program completion, participants will receive a Certificate in Sustainability Leadership and Implementation. To make sure your company’s success is publicly recognized, CORE will interview the company representative 6 months after completing the program and will feature your success story on their website. In addition to learning from the dynamic facilitators Hunter Lovins and Scott McLagan, you will also build strong relationships with some of the leading sustainable companies in Colorado—past attendees include Chipotle, White Wave, DaVita, Boulder Community Hospital, Eco-Products, Snooze, Hunter Douglas, and more.

Program Participants Receive:
  • Access to some of the world’s best resources in graduate level business education and leadership development
  • Practical leadership and implementation skills needed to put an effective sustainability program in place
  • Increased visibility into areas of personal strength and insight into potential areas for growth as a leader
  • In-depth understanding of sustainability frameworks

Class starts on Friday, so I'll tell you how it went!

What did you do today?

271st New Thing - Visited the Space Needle

I was on vacation so I didn't have time to post the last few nights, therefore I'm posting this late as this occurred 1 day ago   (Tues 7/17/12).   We were in the northwest in the Washington State area for a few days so Matt and my 2 Chicago friends were in Seattle and up the Space Needle yesterday. The Space Needle is a tower in Seattle, Washington and is a major landmark of the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It was built for the 1962 World's Fair, during which time nearly 20,000 people a day used the elevators, with over 2.3 million visitors in all for the World Fair. The Space Needle is 605 feet high at its highest point and 138 feet wide at its widest point and weighs 9,550 tons. It is built to withstand winds of up to 200 mph and earthquakes of up to 9.1 magnitude. The tower also has 25 lightning rods on its roof to prevent lightning damage. The Space Needle features an observation deck at 520 feet, and a gift shop with the rotating SkyCity resta...
