216th New Thing - Saw Avenue Q

I'm on vacation so I didn't have time to post the last few nights, therefore I'm posting this late as this occurred 4 days ago (Wed 5/23/12).
We are in the northeast for a few days so we went to New York City all day on Wednesday. First, we ate at a little diner and I had a bacon, egg, and cheese on a jumbo sesame seed bagel. Then we walked to Times Square then down to Empire State building and stopped to get a Dunkin Donuts Coffee Coolatta. We stopped at Crumbs Bake Shop for a Peanut Butter Cup Cupcake on the way. Next we took the subway to 9/11 Memorial that opened on 9/11/11 (10 year anniversary).  There are twin reflecting pools are each nearly 1 acre and feature the largest manmade waterfalls in the North America. The museum is scheduled to open 9/11/12 and 1 WTC (Freedom Tower) is still being built (104 floors when complete). Next we walked down to Battery Park to look at the Statue of Liberty and got a sandwich from Champs Gourmet Deli for a cuban sandwich on the way. Then we went back up north to Rockefeller Center to Top of The Rock (70th floor). Here is where my boyfriend, Matt, proposed to me. Now he is my fiancé! Very exciting news! Next we walked up to Central Park. Then walked back down to Times Square and stopped at Famous Original Ray's Pizza for a slice.
Finally, we went to see a show called Avenue Q The Musical at New World Stages. This is an Off-Broadway musical comedy with puppets that began in March 2003. It is about a story of a recent college grad who moves into a shabby New York City apartment on Avenue Q. There, he meets his neighbors that help him discover his purpose in life. It has won awards such as Tony “Triple Crown” for Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book. It was a very funny show, I enjoyed it, and would recommend it to anyone.

What did you do today?

47th New Thing - Watched Laverne & Shirley

I watched a classic sitcom today from the 70s, Laverne & Shirley . The show aired on ABC from January 26, 1976, to May 10, 1983 and starred Penny Marshall as Laverne De Fazio and Cindy Williams as Shirley Feeney. They were roommates who worked in a fictitious Milwaukee brewery called "Shotz Brewery". The show was a spin-off from Happy Days, as the two lead characters were originally introduced on that series as acquaintances of Fonzie. I watched Season 7, Episode 22, "Perfidy in Blue" originally aired on May 11, 1982. This episode started out with Shirley looking for Laverne's favorite blue purse that she borrowed and lost. Laverne asks where it is because she would like to use it on her date. Shirley lies and says she hasn't seen it. Shirley then watches TV and daydreams that she is in the TV show and married. Laverne is having an affair with Shirley's husband and Laverne tries to poison Shirley. Shirley pretends she is dead. Shirley wakes up and ...

271st New Thing - Visited the Space Needle

I was on vacation so I didn't have time to post the last few nights, therefore I'm posting this late as this occurred 1 day ago   (Tues 7/17/12).   We were in the northwest in the Washington State area for a few days so Matt and my 2 Chicago friends were in Seattle and up the Space Needle yesterday. The Space Needle is a tower in Seattle, Washington and is a major landmark of the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It was built for the 1962 World's Fair, during which time nearly 20,000 people a day used the elevators, with over 2.3 million visitors in all for the World Fair. The Space Needle is 605 feet high at its highest point and 138 feet wide at its widest point and weighs 9,550 tons. It is built to withstand winds of up to 200 mph and earthquakes of up to 9.1 magnitude. The tower also has 25 lightning rods on its roof to prevent lightning damage. The Space Needle features an observation deck at 520 feet, and a gift shop with the rotating SkyCity resta...
