211th New Thing - Ate at Burger Works

I didn't have time to post last night, therefore I'm posting this late as this occurred yesterday (Fri 5/18/12).

There is a new eatery next to Matt's place of work that is opening soon. They had a soft opening this week and since they are next door, they gave Matt a free sneak peak where he could invite friends to come as well. The place that is opening is Red Robin's Burger Works. It is the 3rd restaurant opening of its kind. Burger Works is a fast-casual concept with a simplified, lower-price, limited-service of burgers, beer, and wine, basically a smaller Red Robin. These burgers are priced at $5.99 and are 1/3 pound, the same as regular-size Red Robin burgers. Burger Works will offer customers a Build Your Own Burger customization option. Free burger add-ons include mayonnaise, chipotle mayo, thousand island dressing, house bourbon BBQ sauce, thai chili ketchup, red’s relish, pickles, lettuce, Roma tomatoes, jalapeños, raw, or grilled onions, beer mustard onions, and Fire-Roasted Salsa. Premium add-ons are Cheddar, Swiss, Pepper Jack, or American cheese (50¢ each); guacamole ($1); apple-smoked bacon ($1); onion straws ($1); sautéed portobello mushrooms ($2); fried egg ($1)' or extra beef patty ($2). I did Build Your Own Burger with Pepper Jack cheese, chipotle mayo, bacon, guacomole, lettuce, and tomato on a Brioche Bun. I also got a side salad and root beer. I think my total would've been about $11 but was free last night. Matt got a Whiskey River BBQ Burger (Signature Bourbon BBQ Sauce, Cheddar cheese, crispy onion straws, lettuce, tomato, and mayo, on a Brioche Bun) with sweet potato fries (with Thai Chili Ketchup) and a Diet Coke. As we were finishing, a waitress also brought a free hand-spun chocolate shake for our table to share. It was a thick and delicious chocolate shake. The place was pretty busy for this special event. The food was good, I was really full as I'm not used to eating that much!

What did you do today?

47th New Thing - Watched Laverne & Shirley

I watched a classic sitcom today from the 70s, Laverne & Shirley . The show aired on ABC from January 26, 1976, to May 10, 1983 and starred Penny Marshall as Laverne De Fazio and Cindy Williams as Shirley Feeney. They were roommates who worked in a fictitious Milwaukee brewery called "Shotz Brewery". The show was a spin-off from Happy Days, as the two lead characters were originally introduced on that series as acquaintances of Fonzie. I watched Season 7, Episode 22, "Perfidy in Blue" originally aired on May 11, 1982. This episode started out with Shirley looking for Laverne's favorite blue purse that she borrowed and lost. Laverne asks where it is because she would like to use it on her date. Shirley lies and says she hasn't seen it. Shirley then watches TV and daydreams that she is in the TV show and married. Laverne is having an affair with Shirley's husband and Laverne tries to poison Shirley. Shirley pretends she is dead. Shirley wakes up and ...

271st New Thing - Visited the Space Needle

I was on vacation so I didn't have time to post the last few nights, therefore I'm posting this late as this occurred 1 day ago   (Tues 7/17/12).   We were in the northwest in the Washington State area for a few days so Matt and my 2 Chicago friends were in Seattle and up the Space Needle yesterday. The Space Needle is a tower in Seattle, Washington and is a major landmark of the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It was built for the 1962 World's Fair, during which time nearly 20,000 people a day used the elevators, with over 2.3 million visitors in all for the World Fair. The Space Needle is 605 feet high at its highest point and 138 feet wide at its widest point and weighs 9,550 tons. It is built to withstand winds of up to 200 mph and earthquakes of up to 9.1 magnitude. The tower also has 25 lightning rods on its roof to prevent lightning damage. The Space Needle features an observation deck at 520 feet, and a gift shop with the rotating SkyCity resta...
