270th New Thing - Ate at Ivar's


I was on vacation so I didn't have time to post the last few nights, therefore I'm posting this late as this occurred 2 days ago (Mon 7/16/12).
 
We were in the northwest in the Washington State area for a few days so Matt and my 2 Chicago friends went from Seattle to Canada, then back to Seattle WA. First, we drove about 3 hour from Vancouver south to through border patrol and to Seattle. Then we checked in our hotel and went to Ivar's Original Acres of Clams for dinner. Ivar’s is Seattle’s most historic full service seafood restaurant is poised on Seattle’s colorful waterfront at Pier 54 that has been a tradition since 1938. This restaurant has a wharf-like feel which showcases stellar waterfront views of Washington State ferries, Fire Station #3’s waterside operations, and Puget Sound. We ordered 2 cups of Ivar’s Famous Clam Chowder $10 (Northwest style white clam chowder with a smoky hint of bacon and red clam chowder), 6 Fresh Oyster Shooters $8, and Grilled Fresh Alaska Sockeye Salmon $25 (opal basil vinaigrette, roasted zucchini, grilled Walla Walla sweet onions,
sun-dried tomato, toasted pine nuts, mashed Yukon gold potatoes). Everything was sooooo good. I love seafood!

158th New Thing - Tried Sweet Potato Popchips

While we were at Albertsons doing our weekly grocery shopping, there was a lady there giving away free sample bags of Popchips so I took a sample of their Sweet Potato flavor. I had my 0.8 ox bag of Sweet Potato Popchips today with my lunch. Popchips were founded in 2007 in San Francisco as a healthy alternative to traditional potato chips. They aren't fried or baked, but popped by taking potatoes and adding a heat and pressure. They have won awards such as 'Best Snack' from Shape Magazine and 'Best Chips' from Health Magazine. My 0.8 oz bag had 100 calories, 3g fat, 95mg sodium, 16g carbohydrates, and 2g sugar. They had a slightly salted and sweet flavor in the airy chip. It was a good snack with my lunch.   What did you do today?

South Dakota  - June 2016 Laughing Water Restaurant in Crazy Horse Memorial (12151 Avenue of the Chiefs, Crazy Horse SD 57730) - get the Native American Taco, a type of Indian Fry Bread like Naan, with regular taco fixin's like ground beef, refried beans, cheese lettuce, tomato, onions, and topped with salsa and sour cream! For dessert, get the Fry Bread with Wojapi (warm berry sauce). Prairie Berry Winery (23837 Hwy 385, Hill City SD 57745) - Red Ass Rhubarb (semi-sweet rhubarb raspberry wine). Shooters Wood Fire Grill  (2424 W Main St, Rapid City SD 57702) - Beef Chislic is marinated Angus sirloin strips lightly breaded and fried, served with tangy BBQ sauce. Colonial House Restaurant & Bar (2315 Mt Rushmore Rd, Rapid City SD 57701) - Rhubarb Custard Pie (seasonal - rhubarb in an egg custard baked in a flaky butter crust). NOLA  - October 2018 Café Du Monde (800 Decatur St, New Orleans LA 70116) - Café Au Lait and Beignets, only a 10 minute wait with some live music and well worth it! Commander’s Palace (1403 Washington Ave, New Orleans LA 70130) - Soups 1-1-1 (Turtle Soup, Creole Gumbo du Jour, Soup du Jour), Commander's Crisp Romaine Salad, and Creole Tostada; and, of course, a 25¢ Martini (does it really matter what kind!). No wait for lunch today. All of it was delish and worth the dress code.  Pat O'Brien's (624 Bourbon St, New Orleans LA 70130) - World Famous Hurricane! Antoine's Restaurant (713 St Louis St, New Orleans LA 70130) - Oysters Rockefeller - baked on the half shell with the original Rockefeller sauce created by Antoine's in 1889.
