279th New Thing - Saw Florence + the Machine

I didn't have time to post last night, therefore I'm posting this a day late as this occurred yesterday (Wed 7/25/12).

My friend had extra tickets to the Florence + the Machine concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre so I went and saw them last night. Florence + the Machine are an English indie rock band, consisting of lead singer Florence Welch, Isabella Summers, and a collaboration of other artists who provide backing music. The band's music received praise across the music media before they gained mainstream success. The band's debut album, Lungs, was released on July 6, 2009, and held the #2 position for its first 5weeks on the UK Albums Chart. On January 17, 2010, the album reached the top position, after being on the chart for 28 consecutive weeks. As of October 2010, the album had been in the top 40 in the United Kingdom for 65 consecutive weeks, making it one of the best-selling albums of 2009 and 2010. The group's second studio album, Ceremonials, released in October 2011, debuted at #1 in the UK and number #6 in the US. Florence + the Machine's sound has been described as a combination of various genres, including rock and soul. Lungs won the MasterCard British Album award at the 2010 BRIT Awards. At the 53rd Grammy Awards, Florence + the Machine were nominated for Best New Artist. Additionally, the band performed at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, and the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize Concert. I really enjoyed the show. They had an opener, the Walkmen, that played about 45 minutes. Then Florence played for about 2 hours or 13 songs. Welch's powerful expression has little to do with her face, which moved only slightly as she called through the night, instead allowing her body to twist, twirl, and occasionally sprint through its emotion. Behind her, a fan blew languorously on the train of her dress and the curls framing her face. Her voice attempted to bring meaning to misery. During a pre-encore moment of silence for the victims of the Aurora shooting, Welch instead bowed her fiery mane, closed her eyes and stood in complete silence for 3 minutes as a few of her fans burst into tears. Last night, Welch's most powerful note was an implied one. She has such an amazing voice, spirit, and personality.

361st New Thing - Tried on Wedding Dresses

I didn't have time to post the last night, therefore I'm posting this late as this occurred yesterday (Mon 10/15/12). My friend and I went to David's Bridal last night to try on some wedding dresses. I looked on their website a few months ago to get a feel of the type of dresses I like. There are 6 styles: Classic & Traditional, Chic & Modern, Elegant & Luxurious, Glamorous & Dramatic, Destination, and Reception. I like Classic & Traditional the best. There are 5 silhouettes to choose from: A-Line, Ball Gown, Mermaid/Trumpet, Sheath, and Short. I like A-Line the best. I'm considering straps or strapless. It took about 1.5 hours to try on 5 dresses. I liked 2 of the dresses I tried on, both were under $350. My goal is to find one under $200. Here is one of the 'favorites' that I saw online. It is hard to tell if I would or wouldn't like it on myself. What did you do today?

128th New Thing - Went to Garfinkel's

I didn't have time to post last night, therefore I'm posting this late as this occurred yesterday (Sat 2/25/12). Vail got about 12 inches of snow during the week so my friend and I skied at  Vail  yesterday. I wanted to complete the challenge of skiing all 10 bowls in 1 day since last time I skied 7 of 10 bowls. We started at 8:30am (16th chair) to get a good start. However, since it was windy, Vail closed Blue Sky Basin and the Back Bowls early around 1:30pm! Therefore, funneling everyone to 1 chair lift, Tea Cup Express Lift. We waiting in the lift line from about 1:45-2:45pm thus killing our time to finish our challenge. We only got in 9 of 10 bowls. skied Game Creek Bowl, Sun Down Bowl, Sun Up Bowl, Tea Cup Bowl, Outer Mongolia Bowl, Inner Mongolia Bow, Siberia Bowl, Earl's Bowl, and Pete's Bowl (in that order). Next time I am determined to ski all 10 bowls in 1 day (8:30am-4:00pm). After, standing in the line for an hour, we got cold and didn't even feel like...
